5 KICKASS STEPS TO STAY FIT

 

Since March 2020 everybody in India has been staying at home. It has been like living at your work. After almost 6 months everything is unlocked and people can visit necessary places for work, yet people are still afraid to go to public places. With the rising cases of coronavirus everyday in India it is still not safe to go to gyms or even public parks to workout. A lot of people have gained weight during this time. Some of the people have lost their fitness just because of staying at home and not having an active lifestyle. 

 

Some of us have also progressed by adapting to new ways of working out at home while others were helpless not knowing where to start and how to go about it. Below we mention 5 steps to stay healthy and fit which anybody can start using and by regular practice and discipline the results will start to show up.

  • Commit to at least 30 minutes of exercise routine daily. 

Fitness has to be made a priority. If it’s not a priority then being regular would be difficult which would in turn stop you from being fit. Have a schedule, make a separate calendar of 30 or 60 days and commit to exercising daily or at least four times a week. This priority based calendar would guide you to get up and exercise. 

  • Start with the basics, but start!

Next comes the set of exercises. Complete beginner can be hard for you to perform just a couple of reps of some exercises but pushing yourself is the key. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, similarly your fitness journey starts with a single rep. Start with some warm up. Do basic exercises such as push ups, squats, jumping jacks, lunges, planks etc.  YouTube has several tutorials for beginners and one can start easily by watching them. 

  • Cutting non nutritious foods 

This is perhaps the most difficult part yet the most crucial part in the fitness journey. A lot of us have started binge eating because of the habit of staying at homes. And now since the restaurants are open a lot of us prefer to order the foods which we missed during the lockdown. It is understandable but to stay fit somewhere you have to limit the foods which aren’t nutritious and don’t contribute to your fitness. Eating a balanced diet is the key. Eating salads, some sort of protein everyday (ex. Boiled eggs or even paneer cubes) is a great way to replenish the muscles that have been worked out. It is important to remember not to cut all your favourite food at one go until you are in the habit of working out and eating clean. This is because it will just build a mental pressure and you are more likely to quit in the long run. Stay flexible!

  • Set a goal or a purpose 

Don’t just workout plainly without knowing where you want to reach. Have some tangible goal attached to it. Maybe you want to reduce your weight or  maybe you want to become leaner and muscular. Reaching goals takes time and requires consistency. The results don’t show up in a straight line; they can get up and down because of various factors and other situations in our lives.  So having a goal and following the steps required to attain that goal is a good way to stay motivated as well as disciplined on your fitness journey. 

  • Have fun 

The best way for you to have a continuous fitness journey and build it a lifestyle is to enjoy what you are doing. If you don’t enjoy the process of exercising and staying fit, you are not going to get the results as well as the benefits. Working out and eating a healthy diet has lots of benefits in the long run such as – falling less sick, increasing your happiness, better mental focus and clarity. ALmost all the areas get affected when you start exercising and following a healthy lifestyle. Theajor way of getting these benefits is to have fun while you work out. There are many methods of exercising such as calisthenics, zumba, weight training etc. Try to inculcate these activities in your fitness journey and you are more likely to enjoy and benefit from it.

Track your progress – tracking progress acts as a milestone which helps you to stay dedicated. To track progress on a weight scale, whether you are trying to lose weight or gain mass – note that with proper exercise and diet you should be cutting/adding 0.5kg/month. It can be more or less due to circumstances but being patient is worth it.
