7 Healthy Foods That Are Actually Bad For Your Health

If you are on a diet routine, having healthy food will be your first preference which is totally fair as to have a healthy lifestyle, you have to maintain healthy food eating habits. 

 But being healthy, and knowing which healthy foods to eat, is hard and confusing, especially in today’s times where almost everything is labelled as organic or fat-free. In so many cases, foods that appear healthy might actually be terrible for you, and the opposite is rarely true. 

There are many foods commonly promoted as being diet-friendly alternatives to your usual meals that are doing more harm than any good to your body. While they may shave a few calories off your daily total, the damage they’re doing to your diet and overall health simply isn’t worth it in the long run. 

Here’s a list of foods you thought were healthy but actually prove to be terribly unhealthy for your overall fitness: 


  • Whole Wheat Bread

The term ‘Whole wheat’ may not mean what you think it does. The whole wheat bread is just as diet-unfriendly as white bread ranking similarly high on the glycemic index and providing little to no fibre. Wheat even in its believably “whole” form may raise the bad cholesterol and many of the bread you’ll find in your local supermarket are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup which is highly associated with weight gain and obesity. 


  • Protein Bars

An easy grab and go choice, protein bars make you think they are full of energy and delicious way to meet your protein needs. Sadly, with so much added sugar and ingredients listed that reads like a chemistry textbook, many are no better for you than a full-size candy bar. Pay attention to the label and check the calories count as well. Many bars contain 300 to 400 calories and are better suited as a meal replacement than a snack. Protein can be a great way to fuel your muscles, but most protein bars are hardly healthy food.


  • Low Carb Snacks

In the last 12 years, study after study has confirmed that these diets are an effective way to lose weight and improve health. However, the food manufacturer has caught up on-trend and brought various low-carb “friendly” processed foods to the market. If you take a look at the ingredients list, you see that there is no real food in there, just chemicals and highly refined carbohydrates. These products might come with low-carb, but they don’t really nourish your body. 


  • Energy Drinks

Energy drinks are intended to boost your energy, alertness and concentration. People of all ages consume them and they continue to grow in popularity. 

But some health professionals have warned that energy drinks may have harmful consequences, which has led many people to question their safety. Several people have developed heart problems after consuming energy drinks because it contains a tremendous amount of caffeine and it is also loaded with sugar which is not at all good for diabetic patients. 


  • Packed Low-Fat or Fat-Free Foods

If your goal is to keep cholesterol levels down or lose weight, “fat-free” isn’t the magic bullet. Sometimes “fat-free” is also, well, taste-free. And to make it up for that, food makers tend to pour other ingredients especially sugar, flour, thickener and salt into the products. That can add calories. Plus, if the food isn’t that satisfying, you may end up eating too much of them.


  • Diet Soda

Many people choose diet soda so that they can enjoy this sweet and bubbly drink without consuming hundreds of calories or getting a hefty dose of sugar. However, numerous studies have found a link between drinking too much soda and having a health condition, including diabetes, fatty liver, dementia, heart disease and stroke. Frequently drinking soda might cause a person to crave more sweets, including both sweet snacks and more soda.


  •  Frozen Yogurt  

Just because it has “Yogurt” in the name doesn’t mean it’s good for you. It’s a similar predicament to flavoured yogurt, not to mention the toppings you pile on top, taking this from a borderline healthy dessert alternative to an 800 calories. It might savour your taste buds well, but this type of yogurt is certainly not better than the yoghurt in its original form.

The truly healthy foods are those that don’t need any kind of health claims. No matter what type of foods you consume, too much of anything is bad for health.
